Tumblr – Good for SEO and Traffic

You’ve probably heard about Tumblr, a free microblogging platform which allows bloggers to set up their own website blog, posting pictures, articles, music, quotes and videos. Over the past year Tumblr has had steady growth, with an annual increase of 41%, of which 27% of this growth came in the past 3 months. It has a similar purpose as Pinterest, allowing users to share their images and posts.

When formatted properly, Tumblr is a great avenue in driving traffic and creating crawlable backlinks. It has a lot of features, allowing you to link your Tumblr account to your website and other social platforms, like Facebook and Twitter.

Tumblr was launched in 2007 by David Karp, a 27 year old web developer and entrepreneur. In 2010, David Karp was named to the MIT Technology Review TR35 as one of the top 35 innovators in the world under the age of 35. In Oct of 2011, Tumblr hosted President Obama’s blog, being the first blogging platform to do so.

By the end of 2012, Tumblr hosts over 86 million blogs and 39 billion (with a “b”) posts.

Tumblr continues to be an overall good strategy for the SEO community.
